Floral Oil Paintings for Sale

Setting up a floral arrangement requires the planning of lighting requirements. As the sun moves across the sky, it casts a variety of light and shadow patterns that can completely transform the appearance of a shape.  An example of this would be to critically view something from distance midday. The image would appear flat and formless while early morning or late afternoon when shadows are more prominent would provide additional dimensions through its shadows.  The challenge of floral oil painting becomes catching the fleeting shadow that activates the painting surface and form.  In painting flowers, there is a need as well to compose and construct the pattern of the blooms with the relationship between the positive and negative spaces.

Color plays an important role in floral oil paintings. Varying the brush’s edges to express the flower’s form; losing and regaining the bouquet.  Reflecting the changing light within the bloom and composing the composition’s foreground and background with harmonious hues.

The more attuned to the daily process of creativity, the more flowers encompass the fragility of nature and its fleeting brilliance. Floral oil paintings become an art of a lyrical image.  Observing petals as they turn toward the light, its petals eventually wilt and fall demands attentiveness as the shadows change throughout the day; they become a portrait of the moment.
