Fran Wolok is a contemporary Midwest based artist
who is inspired by the catalyst of the ever-changing kaleidoscope of colors
in nature. A fresh dose of spontaneity characterizes the various colorful
subjects in
oil paintings.
Direct observation, simplifying subjects, and using a
limited palette to adjust colors and values creates compositions that fill
the space of a canvas with masses of light and dark tones. It is just the
opposite technique of using a contour line and filling in the space.
This tonal approach results in the higher the contrast;
the stronger a line would be between light and dark. Painting with a limited
palette in a direct manner expresses mood and atmosphere. It changes a view
when light falls on a subject- and is transformed with beauty.
